Late P.C. Goel

Father of Valuation in India

Late P.C. Goel, known as the "Father of Valuation" in India, was a visionary whose dedication and foresight shaped the profession of valuation into what it is today. His story is one of passion, commitment, and relentless efforts toward professional excellence.

Early Life & Inspiration

Born in 1926 into a humble family in Jammu, P.C. Goel's exposure to civil engineering started early, as his father was involved in major highway projects. His childhood curiosity led him to accompany his father on construction sites, inspiring him to pursue architecture and engineering.

He completed his education in England during the 1950s and returned to India, where he began his professional journey, starting with a small office at his home. His determination led him to form an elite group of professionals, including inviting Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, to be a patron of the Institution, a gesture humbly accepted by Nehru.

Founding of IOV

P.C. Goel had a bold vision for the profession of valuation, a field that was relatively unknown in India at the time. On 2nd October 1968, coinciding with the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, P.C. Goel established the Institution of Valuers (IOV). His leadership transformed a fragmented group of valuers into a national professional body.

Pioneering Initiatives

P.C. Goel initiated several efforts that contributed to the profession:

  • The Indian Valuer Journal: Launched under his leadership, this journal remains a prestigious platform for valuation knowledge. Shri Goel, as an editor, selected articles with great care, encouraging the best valuers in the country to contribute.
  • Indian Valuers Congress (IVC): Under his vision, this annual event became a benchmarking platform where eminent speakers shared knowledge, enhancing the careers of valuers across India.

Growth of IOV

Under his stewardship, IOV expanded into a nationwide organization with 52 branches and over 30,000 members. His tireless work made IOV the third largest valuation institution in the world. Today, IOV is globally recognized, with governments and professional firms seeking collaboration with the institution.

Legacy

Late P.C. Goel's dedication culminated in the establishment of IOV Registered Valuers Foundation (IOV RVF) in 2018, one of the largest Registered Valuers Organization in India. His life exemplifies the power of determination and integrity. He left behind a lasting legacy that continues to inspire future generations of valuers, inspiring them to venture into this dynamic field.
